
December 2, 2025: Inland Action met with Assemblymember Juan Carrillo who represents the 39th Assembly District, which includes Palmdale, Lancaster, Lake Los Angeles, Phelan, Hesperia, Victorville, and Adelanto. Asm. Carrillo discussed transportation, Joshua Tree future legislation, and the need for an onsite visit/meeting in the high desert area to visually emphasize the needs. Asm. December 9, 2025: Inland Action met with San Bernardino City Unified School District Superintendent and Association of California School Administrators Region 12 Superintendent of the Year, Mauricio Arellano. Superintendent Arellano highlighted significant improvement in student test scores, with ELA and math scores outpacing state averages for two consecutive years; SBCUSD’s Vision 2030 and SHINES framework were discussed, emphasizing belief that every student has potential and a focus on building community pride; and the seven-indicator dashboard where growth and change is tracked. Chelsea Ramirez, Coordinator of Career Education, attended with the superintendent and presented on the significant expansion in STEM and CTE (Career Technical Education) pathways, with 28 new STEM labs and 50 CTE pathways covering 12 of 15 industry sectors.
December 16, 2025: Inland Action heard from Dr. Jack S. Hu, the new UCR Chancellor. The focus of his presentation was UCR’s mission to enhance teaching, research, public service, and healthcare. Dr. Hu gave an update on the School of Medicine including healthcare growth goals moving from three clinics to ten and a future Ambulatory Acute Care Hospital with 280-beds. He closed with goals specific to AI including working with the Faculty Senate to establish AI guidelines; infusing AI into research, teaching/learning as well as operational needs; and developing an AI certificate with three set courses and two advanced courses linked to the student’s degree or a department.
