RE:       Letter of Support for the San Bernardino Valley Municipal Water District’s Congressionally Directed Spending / Community Project Funding Request

Dear Senators Feinstein and Padilla and Representative Aguilar,

Inland Action is pleased to support the San Bernardino Valley Municipal Water District’s Congressionally Directed Spending / Community Project Funding Request for the Santa Ana River Enhanced Recharge Phase 1B Project (Project). The Project consists of improving existing facilities and constructing new facilities to increase the amount of stormwater from the Santa Ana River that can be captured and recharged.

When complete, the Project improvements will accommodate the recharge of on-average 15,412 acre-feet per year (AFY), benefiting nearly 400,000 people who rely on this basin as a source of supply.

Considering the current drought conditions that California, and particularly the Santa Ana River Watershed are facing, opportunities to capture stormwater and store it locally are critical to the prosperity of the region.

This project is just one component of the San Bernardino Valley Municipal Water District’s commitment to managing water regionally to provide a reliable and sustainable water supply that supports the changing needs of the region’s people and the environment. I am pleased to lend our support to this effort.
