Dear ATP Review Committee:

This letter is to convey Inland Action’s support for San Bernardino County Regional Parks’ application for the California Department of Transportation ATP Grant to fund expansion of the Santa Ana River Trail (SART). Inland Action is a non-profit, non-partisan corporation of public-spirited leaders who have joined together to be catalysts for the economic well-being of the Inland Empire region of California since 1962.

San Bernardino County Regional Parks, at the direction of the Board of Supervisors, is tasked with the development of riding and hiking (non-motorized) trails within San Bernardino County. This has been identified as a component of the San Bernardino County Non-Motorized Transportation Plan.

Funding of this proposal will promote the development of Phase IV-B/C of the SART, a 3.3-mile expansion from Orange Street in Redlands to Opal Street in Mentone, California. This portion of SART will provide residents of Redlands and other trail users, a safe and healthy transportation alternative that links to schools, work, and recreational destinations throughout Southern California.

Development of the Santa Ana River Trail has been a long-time priority for Inland Action.  Grant funding to continue this project through its next logical phase will be an asset to residents and recreational users throughout the region.  Inland Action fully supports San Bernardino County Regional Parks’ steps toward improving public health by increasing opportunities for active living, reducing pollution emissions, and creating community connections.

Sincerely,

Deborah Barmack

President
