Amazon rolls out heavy-duty electric trucks in Southern California.

On Tuesday May 7, 2024 Inland Action member Fran Inman of Majestic Realty sat in the cab of one of Amazon’s new electric heavy-duty trucks. On that day Amazon announced that they are now deploying these electric trucks across Southern California to haul shipments and customer packages. This initial effort is made up of nearly 50 heavy-duty electric trucks to be used in the region, Amazon’s largest fleet of these vehicles in any country so far. This launch is an important step in moving to  decarbonizing every step of Amazon’s delivery across first, middle, and last mile.

The trucks have a fully-loaded range of 275 miles, modern ergonomics, and high-tech safety and driver-assist features.

  • J.B. Hunt is operating the trucks, while freight electrification startup Forum Mobility is handling the charging at the Los Angeles and Long Beach ports.
  • Amazon has also installed more than 45 DC fast chargers at 11 sites across the area to support its heavy-duty EV fleet.
