To all committee members,
On behalf of Inland Action, I am writing to express our opposition to Senate Bill (SB) 1414.
Inland Action opposes SB 1414 because is singles out just one county, San Bernardino County, for special treatment under state legislation. While we are aware that a few other counties have changed their redistricting processes via state bills, if the State Legislature believes that independent redistricting commissions are a good practice, then proposed state legislation should impose the process on all counties. San Bernardino County should not be subject to special and different rules than the rest of California. The proposed legislation will impose costs on San Bernardino County, and its residents, that are not imposed on other counties in the state. We are unaware of any special or unique circumstances that would justify the need for special legislation for San Bernardino County.
