May 2026 Speakers and Highlights

May 5, 2026: Inland Action met with Dr. Vincent Nestler of CSUSB Cyber and AI Center. Dr. Nestler highlighted AI’s dual role as a tool and a risk, stressing critical thinking and human oversight. He described disruptions across entry-level jobs, including warehousing, logistics, coding, programming, and legal and finance roles. Retraining programs and policy are needed with a $1 million earmark received for retraining as an initial first step.

May 12, 2026: Inland Action met with Eric Levitt, City Manager of San Bernardino. Levitt provided updates on the city’s strategic goals, including fiscal sustainability, quality of life, public safety, and economic development. He outlined initiatives such as increased investment in public safety, community events, infrastructure, affordable housing, and strategic communication to enhance the city’s reputation. The meeting also covered transit-oriented development, downtown revitalization, property tax history, regional partnerships, and recent projects.

May 19, 2026: Inland Action heard from Michael Wells – CEO, Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Redlands-Riverside. Wells shared information about the Boys & Girls Club’s mission as well as statistics. The organization serves over 1,000 youth daily across 65 sites in the Inland Empire and is one of the largest in the nation. Focus areas: safety, kindness, teamwork, academic success, health and wellness, workforce readiness, character, and leadership. The club’s growth has been significant, even overcoming pandemic challenges and expanding through organic partnerships. BGCGRR growth in Language Arts has outpaced national, state and both counties. BGCGRR growth in Math has outpaced national and both counties with growth competitive with state growth.
