SBIA Update
Mike Burrows summarized the events and findings since the Grand Jury report prepared by consultants Harvey M. Rose Associates, LLC (HMR) was released on June 30, 2011. They have responded in writing to the each of the concerns and recommendations. They have also clarified and corrected errors that were presented in the HMR report. SBAA is a public body. Open dialogue, comment, and criticism are both required and welcomed. SBIAA staff are prepared to incorporate suggestions into public discussions with the SBIAA Commission and others. The Grand Jury report, the Cal State Economic and Social Impact Study and press releases are all posted on their web site. http://www.sbdairport.com/our_organization/pressreleases.htm
Redistricting
The California Redistricting Commission adopted final district maps for Congressional, State Assembly, State Senate and Board of Equalization districts on August 15, 2011. The final maps were compared to the Inland Action submission and summarized. Challenges to the final maps were discussed. The Supreme Court of California requires electronic submission of petition and related documents challenging electoral maps certified by the Citizens Redistricting commission within 45 days of certification. It is believed that there is a good chance the Commission’s maps will hold up under scrutiny in part due to the open and transparent process mandated and adhered to by the Citizens Commission and the amount of funding needed to present a serious challenge. For more information please see the California Citizens Redistricting Commission web site at http://wedrawthelines.ca.gov/
Membership
A membership update was given by Carole Beswick. Inland Action has had 4 resignations and one merger of members that combined will create a budget shortfall for 2011. Current members are encouraged to suggest new members.
Meeting adjourned at 8:35 a.m.
