Minutes

 

Present: Deborah Barmack, Carole Beswick, Tom Brickley, Ken Coate, Kevin Dyerly, Louis Goodwin, Scott Hofferber, Mark Kaenel, John Mirau, Kristine Scott, Paul Shimoff, Hassan Webb and Ray Wolfe.

Announcements: 1) The Visioning Committee project is moving forward with the Brookings Institute and is now named Inland Economic Growth & Opportunity (IEGO). 2) Although the Inland Action press release regarding the Sacramento trip was not published, it will be posted on the public side of the Inland Action web site. A copy was sent to the Senate Pro Tem. 3) The SBCTA Board is scheduled to affirm the final environmental document for the I-10 Express Lanes at their meeting on Wednesday, July 12, 2017.  Support was requested for this important meeting.  The Monday Morning Group will be asked if they too would like to send a representative.  Carole Beswick will attend from Inland Action and another letter of support will be sent.

Scott Hofferber, Treasurer presented the year to date financials ending April 30, 2017. Scott summarized the Balance Sheets and the Profit & Loss reports.  The totals are typical for this time of year.  He requested that the approved budget be put on the “member” area of the web site.

Three members of Inland Action met with Senator Connie Leyva at her office in Chino to discuss AB 1523 (Obernolte) Local agencies: contracts: design-build projects for which she is now in support. She also expressed support for Cal Grants for Community Colleges as well as private colleges..

Kevin Dyerly, Education Committee Chair discussed AB 1435 The College Athlete Protection Act. Although well intended, the proposed legislation is overly broad, costly and conflicts with existing NCAA and Conference rules..  Passage will draw resources away from programs that serve students and potentially could end/reduce athletic programs.  A letter of opposition is requested immediately as the bill will be heard in Committee on Monday, July 3.
M/S/P: A letter of opposition to AB 1435 will be requested from Pam Langford, Chair of the Legislative Committee.

Dignity Health has requested that Douglas Kleam, President of St. Bernardine’s Hospital be named as the Primary member (Dan Murphy will remain as the Alternate).

The Inland Action representative from Soren McAdams has retired. Contact with key personnel regarding their continued membership will be made by Peter Barmack.

Dates for a member summer event will be circulated by Inland Action staff.

The West End Committee will meet in July and discuss the meetings held in Ontario and a possible reception to help bring in community members. It was noted that November 1, 2017 will be the first Anniversary of Ontario Airport under local control.

The group discussed revisiting the Inland Action historical project to interview key persons in the region and to capture information/achievements where Inland Action has been a factor.
