M/S/P: Minutes of the June 7, 2011 meeting

The Redistricting Commission held a public hearing on Sunday, June 19, 2011 in San Bernardino. Members of the Ad Hoc Committee and others attended and spoke. The Commission heard approximately 155 citizens turning away many due to time constraints. The Commission expressed interest in the Inland Action submission and requested further detail which was supplied to them Monday evening. No other groups in the Inland Empire have submitted maps to the Commission.

Inland Action’s goal is to maximize the Inland Empire’s representation using local knowledge. All redistricting maps submitted are public documents and the function of carving up the political districts controversial. Inland Action has seized a historical opportunity.

The Commission is accepting written comments through the end of the week. A press release has been created and the Inland Action members are encouraged to contact others in the community for support. A redistricting briefing and links to Inland Action maps will be sent to the membership.

Neil Macready gave an overview of the new Inland Action web site.

Meeting adjourned at 8:30 a.m.
