Executive Committee Meeting-Immediately following Regular Meeting

Minutes

Present:  Deborah Barmack, Carole Beswick, Mike Burrows, Ken Coate, Louis Goodwin, Mark Kaenel, Lowell King, Bill Lemann, Dan Murphy, Michael Rivera, Elizabeth Romero, Kristine Scott, Ray Wolfe, and Frank Zabaleta.

Members of the Executive Committee were asked to convene after the regular meeting to discuss the 2023 budget.

Mark Kaenel, Treasurer reminded the Committee that due to the pandemic and absence of advocacy trips, Inland Action’s policy of increasing dues at 2.5% annually was not followed in 2021 or 2022.  Inland Action maintains a healthy balance sheet with a good deal of liquidity.

The draft budget for 2023 was presented. The draft budget included the Personnel Committees approved increases for staff and associated taxes.  It also included anticipated sponsorship for the Washington, D.C., and Sacramento legislative receptions as the group plans to again travel for advocacy this year.  Without dues increase in 2023 there would be a slight net income.

The Committee discussed pros and cons of increasing membership dues and by what percentage.

Motion R. Wolfe/Second/Passed: Membership dues for 2023 will be increased by 1%.

An increase in Special Projects line item was suggested, discussed, and agreed as the group anticipates Inland Action will pay for a small “strike team” to go to Sacramento to meet with the Governor’s Office.

An interest baring account was suggested as rates are increasing and there is a substantial balance in the checking account.  Staff will work with the Treasurer to achieve.

Motion by K. Coate/Second/Passed: Budget is recommended for approval as adjusted.

Meeting adjourned at 9:09 a.m.
